DOHA: Five-year-old Fahim Sirajudeen (pictured), who fell into an open sewage maintenance hole in Abu Hamour a week ago, has died, family friends told The Peninsula yesterday.

Fahim, who hailed from Tamil Nadu in India, fell into an open manhole last Monday near Doha Central Market.

The boy was undergoing treatment at Hamad Hospital and doctors declared him dead around 11pm yesterday.

The boy fell into the manhole when he, along with his family, was returning from the fish market after buying fish.

The accident happened when the boy, who was following the family, rushed to catch up with them.

He was rescued by employees in the fish market and rushed to hospital after emergency aid.

His father Sirajuddin is working as an accountant in a private company in the Industrial Area.

His family was on a visit to Qatar.
