DOHA: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday approved the Cabinet’s decision No. 29 of 2013 to set up a committee to look into grievances related to expropriation of real estate in public interest.

The committee is to be set up under the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning and it will look into complaints regarding expropriation or temporary acquisition of real estate in public interest.

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will select two judges from the Court of Appeal as chairman and vice chairman of the committee.

The committee will include Ali Saleh Al Marri, Arif Jumah Al Maliki and Mahmoud Mohammad Al Marzouqi as members.

The committee will take directions from the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning. One more employee from the ministry will be appointed in the secretariat of the committee and his or her nomination and powers will be decided by the minister.

The committee members can access the land and property mentioned in the grievances for inspection after notifying the owners and occupants.

The committee can discuss grievances in absentia after making sure that the parties concerned have been notified. Decision issued by the committee will be considered final.

This decision cancels the cabinet decision No. 2 of 1990 and those that clash with this decision.
