Doha: Juichi Yoshikawa, a renowned Japanese calligrapher, recently visited Qatar for the first time at the invitation of the Qatar Museum Authority (QMA).
Yoshikawa’s ‘Sho’ (which means the Japanese Art of Calligraphy) performance features the artist’s dynamic movement in a vast space.
He has performed ‘Sho’ in several countries, including France, China, Brazil and the UAE, and fascinated many people. This time, Yoshikawa visited Qatar for the preparation of a possible ‘Sho’ performance here in 2014.
Yoshikawa paid courtesy calls on H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of QMA, and the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari.
He also performed a demonstration of calligraphy at the Japan school in Doha. The pupils of the school enjoyed his powerful performance with skilful calligraphic art and some took part in the performance under the guidance of the ‘Sho’ master. The Peninsula
