DOHA: Students of three private schools continue to face a transport crisis as the issue with bus drivers has not been resolved by the management since Sunday.
Parents of Cambridge School of Doha, Cambridge International School for Girls and Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) were asked last evening via text messages to make alternative transport arrangements for their children as school busses will not be available today.
The schools sent similar messages yesterday as well.
Bus drivers went on a flash strike for hike on Sunday afternoon. As a result, students are in a difficult situation. The strike, the first of its kind in the country, led to chaotic scenes at the three schools on Sunday afternoon.
As many parents depend on school bus transport it is learnt that a lot of children were absent from school yesterday.
“Parents are suffering making two trips during working hours. Children said half of the class was empty. Students are loosing out,” said a father of two boys at DMIS.
The mother of a grade 10 student said, “Lots of students were absent from school today, it’s time the school found an alternative arrangement instead of putting children in trouble.”
The school management on Sunday said it had filed a complaint with police against the striking drivers. Police is investigating the incident, an official of the Taleb Group told The Peninsula on Sunday.
About 120 drivers were involved in the strike.
