DOHA: The Friends of the Environment Center, affiliated with the Ministry of Sports and Youth, organised an awareness workshop on cybersecurity risks and preventive measures in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Agency, as part of its “Kafa’at” programme.
The workshop was attended by the centre’s employees and participants in the programme from the Al Khor Girls Centre, and focused on promoting safe digital practices and strengthening awareness of ways to protect personal information and accounts from electronic threats.
The initiative reflects the centre’s efforts to develop the skills of its employees and programme participants while encouraging responsible and secure use of modern technologies. It also seeks to reinforce a culture of cybersecurity awareness amid the growing use of digital platforms and electronic services in daily life.
The workshop covered key cybersecurity topics, including common electronic risks individuals may face when using digital devices and online platforms, as well as methods employed by hackers and cyber fraudsters to access personal data and information.
Participants were introduced to practical measures to reduce such risks, including the use of strong passwords, activation of additional account security features, and caution when opening unfamiliar links or responding to messages from unknown sources.
The workshop also stressed the importance of not sharing personal information with untrusted parties and verifying digital content before interacting with it or providing data through online platforms.
Awareness of fraud techniques and social engineering was another key component of the workshop. Participants were reminded that safe digital behaviour represents the first line of defence against cyber threats, particularly as reliance on online services continues to expand across various aspects of everyday life.
The workshop provided participants with practical guidance to help protect their privacy, personal data and online accounts, while encouraging them to deal with potential cyber threats with greater awareness and responsibility.
The event forms part of the “Kafa’at” programme, through which the Friends of the Environment Center seeks to enhance participants’ capabilities and equip them with knowledge and skills across different fields. The programme also supports cooperation with specialised national institutions to deliver quality initiatives that contribute to youth development and awareness.
The Friends of the Environment Center continues to organise training and awareness activities aimed at developing young people’s capabilities and encouraging their positive participation, in line with the Ministry of Sports and Youth’s efforts to empower youth, enhance their skills and prepare them to meet the demands of the digital age responsibly and effectively.
