DOHA: Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri participated in the 2026 Annual Forum of the Global Coalition for Social Justice, taking part in the high-level session entitled “From International Commitments to Implementation: Delivering Social Justice”, held virtually yesterday and chaired by United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs H E Li Junhua.
The session forms part of the Forum’s second day, which focuses on translating international commitments into concrete action.
The Ministry of Labour’s participation in the Forum reflects its efforts to engage with international organisations, exchange views on the latest global developments in the labour sector and contribute to discussions among labour ministers and other partners on key issues shaping the future of work.
In his remarks, Dr. Al Marri stressed that the current phase requires moving from consensus on principles and commitments to translating them into tangible improvements in people’s lives.
He noted that the success of multilateral action should not be measured solely by the documents adopted, but by the ability to turn shared commitments into policies, institutions and partnerships capable of delivering concrete and sustainable results.
Against this backdrop, Dr. Al Marri highlighted Qatar’s hosting of the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha in November 2025, which culminated in the adoption of the Doha Political Declaration.
The Declaration renewed the international commitment to eradicating poverty, promoting full and productive employment and decent work for all, and advancing social integration as interrelated pillars of social development. The United Nations General Assembly subsequently adopted the
He noted that while the Doha Political Declaration reflects a shared international commitment, the responsibility now lies in turning that commitment into an effective implementation agenda. This requires international commitments to be translated into national policies, backed by the necessary institutions, resources and capacities, and underpinned by genuine partnerships bringing together governments, employers’ and workers’ organisations, international organisations and other stakeholders.
He further emphasised that implementation must be subject to monitoring and measurement, so that social justice does not remain merely an objective whose importance is reaffirmed but becomes a tangible reality against which progress can be tracked and impact assessed.
Dr. Al Marri underscored the importance of the Global Coalition for Social Justice as a platform bringing together a broad range of partners and enabling international consensus to be translated into structured cooperation and joint initiatives at global, regional and national levels. He noted that this is a particular focus of this year’s Forum in supporting implementation of the Doha Political Declaration. The ILO describes the 2026 Forum as placing particular attention on the Coalition’s contribution to implementing the Declaration and on strengthening collaboration, policy coherence and coordinated action.
Qatar joined the Global Coalition for Social Justice in November 2025, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation and supporting international efforts to advance social justice and decent work.
