DOHA: World renowned shows glut Doha audience’s eyes this Eid Al Adha, thanks to a rich programme Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) along with its partners offers to the public this Eid.

Unlike the previous editions of the Eid Al Adha festival, this is the first time organisers brought at one time shows featuring globally famous characters from films and cartoon features such as Smurfs, Ice Age, Ben 10 and Snow White.

Smurfs and Ben 10 are being staged alternately at The Gate Mall and Landmark Mall while Ice Age is being shown at the City Centre Mall. The classic tale of Snow White on the other hand plays at the 980-seat Al Rayyan Theatre in Souq Waqif.

“I commend QTA for bringing these shows which are popular to children around the world,” said Myrna, a Filipina mother whose daughter is a fan of the Smurfs. They were watching the show yesterday at The Gate Mall.

She had to buy some merchandises for her daughter after the recent showing of the film Smurfs 2, and meeting the adorable blue characters in person was an experience her daughter would remember for quite sometime, she said.

The Smurfs show lasts for 30 minutes and is shown thrice, at 5.30pm, 7pm and 9pm until Sunday at The Gate Mall. It was originally introduced as a series of characters by a comic artist, which then later evolved into a television franchise that was centered on a group of small blue fictional cartoons.

The series aims to positively impact children by incorporating good values and morals into each episode.

“What a fabulous show! My kids really enjoyed it,” said Catherine, mother of two, after watching the Snow White Show yesterday at Al Rayyan Theatre in Souq Waqif.

The hour-long stage play appealed to the young audience as the 18-member cast including Snow White and the seven dwarfs sang songs live, telling the classic story that has enthralled millions around the world from the storybook and the stage to television and the wide screen.

The audience enjoyed the play as the cast, dressed in colourful costumes, interacted with them at some parts of the show.

A popular cartoon network show that entertains children by entwining multiple stories with a science fiction concept, Ben 10 has been entertaining hundreds of children at Landmark Mall since the first day of Eid.

The Ice Age show has also been a main attraction at the City Centre Doha. The shows held at the ice rink features some of the well-loved characters in the movie including Sid, a giant ground sloth; Manny, a wooly mammoth and Diego, a smilodon, among others.

Providing a wide variety of shows is part of the QTA’s strategy to cement a reputation for Qatar as a popular Eid destination in the GCC.
