Doha, Qatar: Qatar have qualified for the 2026 Tent Pegging World Cup in Jordan after finishing first in the qualifying play-off tournament hosted by Oman over three days.
Qatar topped the standings with 414.50 points, finishing 1.50 points ahead of runners-up Iraq, while Kuwait placed third.
Nasser Al Hajri won individual gold on the final day, with compatriot Ibrahim Al Hammadi claiming silver.
The World Cup will be held in Jordan from November 11 to 14.
Qatar Equestrian Federation and Modern Pentathlon (QEFMP) President Badr bin Mohammed Al Darwish described the qualification as a historic achievement, reflecting the growth of Qatari equestrian sports and their rising regional and international standing.
“The riders showed great technical ability and high morale, overcoming strong opposition and challenging conditions to finish on top. Their performance reflects the continued development of our sport and the support of the country’s leadership and the Qatar Olympic Committee,” Al Darwish told QNA.
He said preparations would intensify ahead of the World Cup, with the team determined to represent Qatar strongly on the international stage.
QEFMP Secretary-General Sheikh Ahmed bin Noah Al-Thani said the qualification was the result of sustained technical work and careful planning.
“Finishing first in the play-off was no coincidence. It reflects the riders’ tactical discipline, mental focus and the benefits of intensive training camps and high-level competition,” he said.
Sheikh Ahmed noted that Qatar’s third-place finish in the preceding qualifying stage had secured their place in the play-off.
He added that preparations would focus on maintaining the fitness and mental readiness of riders and horses, with Qatar aiming to contend for top honours in Jordan.
