DOHA: The fourth edition of ‘Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition’ — Dimdex 2014 — to be held here from March 25 to 26, is set to be the largest since the start of the event in 2008, said a press statement yesterday issued by Nakilat Damen Shipyards Qatar (NDSQ), the diamond sponsor of the event.
Dimdex 2014, the Mena region’s leading international maritime defence exhibition and conference, will be held under the patronage of the Emir, H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at the Qatar National Convention Centre.
NDSQ is a Qatari shipbuilder specialising in quality vessels of up to 170M in length, including naval, coastguard and patrol vessels.
NDSQ is based at Qatar’s ship construction and repair facility, Erhama bin Jaber Al Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in the Port of Ras Laffan. The company is a joint venture between Qatar’s premier shipping company Nakilat and renowned shipbuilding group, Damen Shipyards of the Netherlands.
NDSQ’s achievements so far include the launch of the largest vessel ever to have been built in Qatar, the 140M-long steel barge Al Ghatroushah, and the launch of 11 made-in-Qatar work boats of which already eight have been delivered. NDSQ has also received orders for a further 17 vessels.
