Qatar shooters bag two medals on penultimate day

Hosts Qatar won two medals on the penultimate day of the 49th CISM World Military Shooting Championship at Losail Shooting Range yesterday.
Qatar’s medals came in the team events, the men’s team clinched the silver medal in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event finishing behind China.
The Qatari trio of Oleg Engachev, Ivan Bidniak and Konstantin Maltsev finished with a score of 1737, while the winning team from China of Zheng Gao, Zhenxiang Xie and Yongde Jin talled 1755.
The Russian trio of Aleksei Klimov, Viacheslav Kalyuzhnyy and Anton Guryanov took the bronze. The hosts picked up the second medal in the women’s Skeet event. Qatari trio of Sarah Mohammed, Hajar Mohammed and Reem Al Sharshani helped the hosts to pick the bronze. The Qatar girls were successful in shooting down 200 targets.
The Russian team members of Marina Belikova, Anastasiia Krakhmaleva and Maria Meleshchenko were in superb form and won the gold medal with a championship record, shooting down 206 clay targets while China took the silver, having shot two targets less than the champions. The Chinese team members included Heng Zhang, Yufei Che and Ying Zhou.
Qatar so far have four medals in the championship where Germany leads the medals tally followed by China.
Over 700 shooters from 50 countries are taking part in the championship which ends with today’s closing ceremony at 5.30pm. In the other events decided yesterday, the Russians continued their domination in the women’s skeet by winning two medals.
Having won the team gold, Marina Belikova maintained her fine run in the individual event to take the gold followed by Simona Scocchetti of Italy while Anastasiia Krakhmaleva took the bronze winning the shoot-out with Wenzel Christine of Germany.
In the other events decided yesterday, Germany won team gold in the 50m Rifle 3 positions for women, followed by Switzerland and Russia.
Norway took the gold in the 330m Rapid Fire for men, while Austria took silver and Denmark the bronze.
Korea won one medal in the 50m Rifle 3 positions in the individual women’s event.
Song Hee Bae took the top place piping Franziska Peer of Austria and Alena Nizkoshapskaia of Russia.
