DOHA: Registration is now open for the National Sports Day (NSD) activities on February 12.
The National Sport Day, held every second Tuesday of February, is an initiative adopted by the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. It aims to widen the scope of participation of the public in sport and create awareness of its health benefits.
Sheikh Hamad Abdulaziz Al Thani, Head of Media and Communications for National Sports Day at Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) said: “The National Sport day aims to raise awareness about health benefits through various activities and motivate personal development. Everyone is welcome to fill in the electronic registration form to take part.”
Those who wish to participate in individual or team events can visit www.sportday.qa and fill in the form. Alternatively, people can register on the day of the event by visiting registration desks near the scheduled sporting activity.
Ministries, government departments, public and private sector organisations, and sports clubs will organise activities.
Venues include Aspire Zone, which will host the Aspire Run and the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee hall where ladies can take part in volleyball, handball and football events.
There will also be a Sports Walk and sailing on the Corniche, where the QOC Zone will also host tennis, table tennis, basketball and handball events. Katara and the country’s top sports clubs such as Al Sadd and Al Rayyan will also host events.
The official National Sport Day (NSD) Facebook page has reached out to 43,510 people, keeping them informed about the event on February 12.
The page reached over 5,000 fans one month after its launch. Out of 5,028 fans, 34 percent are in the age group 25 to 34 years and most active on the page. A total of 3,123 fans are from Qatar.
The NSD Twitter account @Qatar_NSD, on the other hand, is being followed by 485. People can stay updated with news related to NSD by following the account or the Official Hashtag #NSD.
