DOHA: Qatar Charity’s ‘Before the Freeze’ campaign has raised QR25m for displaced and refugee Syrians. The money will be used to help displaced Syrians inside the country and those living as refugees in neighboring countries, who are experiencing extreme winter storms and snow that has led to loss of life and property.
QC is attempting to raise QR60m for the implementation of a project to provide caravans to replace the inadequate tents that are currently home to many Syrians who are suffering considerably in light of the current bad weather. QC also wishes to distribute blankets and clothing, heating and food.
This is in addition to a campaign for emergency support for those affected by the recent storms, carried out over the last two weeks in the camps for Syrians in Jordan, Lebanon, and the Turkish-Syrian border.
QC urged Qatari benefactors and philanthropists to contribute to this campaign with their donations, either financial or in-kind, for the relief of the Syrian people, whose suffering has intensified in light of the wave of snowstorms that has hit the region.
QC will also establish a number of model villages, each is made up of 100 caravans and big enough to home a family of six members, and supplied with basic equipment including six brushes, six covers, six pillows, carpets and tools for cooking.
The families will also benefit from communal services which include a collective kitchen tent, a mosque, a school, baths, sinks, playgrounds for children, water distribution and waste points.
QC has recently sent a convoy of three trucks carrying 45 tonnes of humanitarian aid to the Syrian-Turkish border, in order to distribute in-kind aid that was collected through QC’s ‘Spectrum’ (Taif) project, and included blankets and clothing, (mostly children’s clothing), heaters, shoes and games for children. This aid benefitted thousands of displaced Syrians at home, and those living as refugees in Turkey, particularly those affected by the recent wave of snowstorms.
“Qatar Charity continues to collect in-kind donations for the benefit of the Syrians, via collection points across the state, and on the following numbers: 66348510 from Duhail area to the north, 66314798 for Ryan and its environs, 66448212 for Doha and its suburbs and 66467838 in Al Wakra and its suburbs,” said Abdullah Al Dosari, QC Director of In-kind donations.
QC continues its ‘Before the Freeze’ campaign in order to provide assistance to Syrians, including a new relief convoy to be directed inside Syria at a cost of QR 200,000 per truck, and containing enough aid to support 450 families a month.
The convoy will contain 12 tonnes of flour to be provided to the bakery that will go on to distribute free bread to targeted households. The convoy also contains 450 bags for children including winter clothing. To donate to this convoy, shares vary between QR1000, QR5000 and QR10,000. One can also donate QR9000 for a caravan without services and QR10,000 with services.
To donate to the convoy and caravans for those affected by the snow storms, call the hotlines- 55524646 and 70700792, or the contact center on 44667711.
