Tripoli: The United Nations Support Mission in Libya yesterday expressed its deep concern about stopping oil production in Libya.
The mission has warned in a statement that “the consequences will be severe for the Libyan people, who depend entirely on the permanent flow of oil” stressing that this step will reflect its tremendous repercussions on the already deteriorating economic and financial situation in the country.
The UN mission urged all Libyans to “exercise maximum restraint while international negotiations continue to mediate an end to the protracted Libyan crisis, including recommending measures to ensure transparency in the allocation of state resources.”
The mission reiterated “the importance of maintaining the integrity and neutrality of the National Oil Corporation.” The Libyan National Oil Corporation had announced, yesterday, ‘the force majeure’ after stopping oil exports from the ports located in the east of the country.
