Trap competition kicks off at Asian Shotgun Championship Doha 2026

Doha, Qatar: The trap competition began on the seventh day of the Asian Shotgun Championship Doha 2026, currently underway at the Lusail Shooting Complex. The event will run until next Wednesday, with 196 male and female shooters from 17 countries taking part.

Competition on the opening day was intense, featuring qualifying rounds in the men’s, women’s, youth, junior women’s and team categories.

In the men’s individual event, two qualifying rounds of 25 targets each were contested. Kazakhstan’s Mark Pokivalov led with 49 hits, edging Kuwait’s Talal Al-Rashidi on countback.

Kuwaiti shooter Abdulrahman Al-Faihan finished third with the same score.

The women’s individual qualifiers also saw two rounds. Qatar’s Ray Basil topped the standings with 48 targets, followed by Kazakhstan’s Elenora Ibragimova with 47 and China’s Xian Wang with 46.

In the youth category, after three rounds totaling 75 targets, Chinese Taipei’s Hao-Jeon Chuang led with 70. Kazakhstan’s Asilzhan Isalbayev placed second with 68, ahead of compatriot Anton Belsky on 66.

Kazakhstan dominated the junior women’s individual Asian Grand Prix, with Leila Shantikova leading the standings.

Team events saw the UAE top the men’s category, Kazakhstan lead the women’s, and Kazakhstan also finish first in the youth teams.

Action continues on Monday with remaining qualifiers and finals in selected categories.
