American Diabetes Association team visits HMC

DOHA: A delegation from American Diabetes Association (ADA), led by its Chief Scientific and Medical Officer, Dr Robert Ratner, visited Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) recently as part of HMC’s efforts to engage internationally leading organisations in its efforts to tackle the rising incidence of diabetes in Qatar.
The delegation included Linda Cann, Vice-President for Professional Education, Conventions and International Affairs; and Paulina Duker, Vice- President for Diabetes Education and Clinical Programmes.
The delegation met senior executives at HMC, including Professor Abou-Samra; Colene Daniel, CEO of Hamad General Hospital (HGH); and Dr Mahmoud Zirie, Chief of Endocrinology and Diabetes Division at HMC. 
The team also visited National Diabetes Centre at HGH and had a meeting with members of the Qatar National Diabetes Strategy Committee at the Supreme Council of Health. 
The team visited the centre to look at facilities and the diabetes education programme and to engage in detailed discussions on how the programme can be enhanced with the aim of getting accredited by ADA. 
HMC and ADA are exploring collaboration in research, as well as accreditation for healthcare professionals involved in diabetes care. The Peninsula
