CHICAGO: A popular cheerleader was shot dead during a prank after the father of a classmate opened fire on a car full of teenagers in the US state of Arkansas, local media reported.
Seven teenagers between the ages and 14 and 18 squeezed into the car and drove over to a classmate’s house to dump leaves, mayonnaise and eggs on his car early Saturday morning, KARK news reported.
“It seems to be an ongoing prank between the kids,” Little Rock police lieutenant Sidney Allen told the station.
“Mr. Noble’s child allegedly had done a prank to some of the kids on Halloween. As a friendly feud they went over there to do some pranks on their house.”
But father Willie Noble, 48, was not amused. He threw open his front door and opened fire on the car as the teens were driving away.
Adrian Broadway, 15, was shot in the head. One of the other teens received minor injuries from broken glass.
“They was trying to be teenagers,” friend Laguyia Bland said at a candlelight vigil held Sunday night. “As you know, teenagers make mistakes and this was one of those mistakes.”
Hearing paused for Cole bombing mastermind
Washington: A US military tribunal postponed pretrial hearings for a man accused of masterminding the 2000 USS Cole suicide bombing to allow time for the defendant to meet with the lawyer he has threatened to fire, a Pentagon official said.
US Army Colonel Judge James Pohl recessed the court until today after hearing that Guantanamo detainee Abd Al Rahim Al Nashiri is considering dropping his death penalty attorney, Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Todd Breasseale said in an email.
Nashiri is awaiting trial in September for allegedly orchestrating the 2000 attack in which al Qaeda bombers steered a boat full of explosives into the side of the American warship while it refueled in the Yemeni port of Aden, killing 17 US sailors and wounding 37.
The judge had scheduled eight days of pretrial hearings to begin on Monday, in part to determine what evidence will be admissible at trial, Breasseale said.
