DOHA: The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs is working with authorities concerned to activate a recommendation by Central Municipal Council (CMC) to unify charges for recruiting domestic helps and fix profit margins of manpower agencies.
A committee of representatives from the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Interior and manpower agencies was set up to prepare mechanism to deal with countries exporting domestic helps and start talks with other countries to recruit housemaids.
The ministry has rejected a CMC recommendation to bring housemaids and drivers for widows, orphans and the elderly, saying it is not its job, Al Sharq reports.
The ministry discussed with officials from several countries, including Cambodia, Bangladesh, Kenya, Tanzania, and Mauritania.
Qatar Chamber has communicated with the GCC Federation of Chambers of Commerce to make rules to select manpower agencies operating in exporting countries.
The federation responded that the issue had been raised in the ninth meeting of the Committee for Human Resources and Labour Market of GCC.
The committee has recommended that the GCC ministries of labour and social affairs should be notified to prepare a draft law to regulate the recruitment of domestic helps. The draft law will be tabled in the upcoming meeting of the GCC on people with special needs.
