Qatar Total Open winner Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic is aiming to raise her game’s bar to a much higher level in her pursuit to clinch the elusive Grand Slam title.
The world No.3, who won the second title of the season and eighth of her career by defeating Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 6-4 at the Khalifa International Tennis Complex on Saturday, aims to shift gears to take her game to a much higher level in the coming months under new coach.
The 24-year-old having made rapid strides on the women tennis is targeting the remaining three Grand Slams to open her account.
“I have other goals than being No.1 right now. It's to win a Grand Slam. I was in the final, so now the next step would be to win it,” said the 2016 US Open runner-up.
“Obviously there are some things what I still want to improve in the game, which is my backhand, my forehand,” she said.
“Still a lot of things to work on, with a new coach, there's still things what he wants to teach me,” she added after her win in Qatar, which will help her to retain her World No.3 rank.
Pliskova said with her style of play, hard court and grass courts of Wimbledon was top of the list.
“With my game, I think would be hard court or Wimbledon. So definitely French Open would be the last.”
Asked if there is a possibility of winning a Grand Slam this season, she said: “Well, there's just three left now. One of them is on clay. So, this one would be really difficult. So everything what I play there would be a bonus. Then I'll just prepare myself the best I can for Wimbledon. I have a coach now which won Wimbledon twice. So maybe he can help me little bit in this way. Then obviously US Open, it's going to be difficult. I'm defending there a lot of points. Tough to say. I would love to do it this year. If not, I still think I have a good chance the next few years.”
