DOHA: Doha Film Institute’s (DFI) tribute to French comedian-auteur, Jacques Tati, opened on Monday night at Katara.
The event was attended by French Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Jean-Christophe Peaucelle, Canadian Ambassador André Dubois, Head of the Central African Republic mission Hamodi Check and DFI CEO Abdulaziz Al Khater.
As part of the worldwide celebration of Francophone week, and the Katara-DFI Cinema Series, the showcase will present four films by Tati who is a beloved cultural icon of France.
The films are being presented through new digital restorations in the Gulf for the first time.
The Semaine de la Francophonie celebrations in Doha are being held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari.
The remaining films Mon oncle (1958) and Playtime (1967) will screened at Katara Drama Theatre tonight and tomorrow at 7.30pm, respectively.
