DOHA: Senior leaders and researchers from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) gathered for Annual Residents and Fellows Research Day.
The event showcased the research being conducted by residents and fellows within HMC’s training groups.
It provided an opportunity for young researchers to present their published papers and be formally recognised for their works. The event opened with presentations by Dr Wanis Ibrahim, Chairman, Annual Residents and Fellows Research Day Steering Committee, and Professor Ibrahim Janahi, Executive Director, HMC’s Medical Research Centre (MRC).
Dr Ibrahim said, “This was a wonderful celebration of the research work undertaken by residents and fellows at HMC.
“We want to encourage and nurture our researchers by teaching them the appropriate skills for planning research projects, applying for grants and conducting research.
“The day provided the research community at HMC with the opportunity to come together and share knowledge and experience.”
Prior to the event, residents and fellows were invited to submit original research papers, case reports, conference posters and quality projects for five award categories.
Submissions were assessed based on criteria, including the research paper must have received approval from MRC or Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), the researcher had to be a current resident or fellow at HMC or PHCC, and original published research, case reports and conference abstracts within the last five years were admissible.
Five winning projects were announced for four categories: Best Case Report, Best Original Research, Best Poster Presentation, and Best Quality Project.
Research plays a valuable role at HMC in delivering high-quality healthcare to patients.
Prof. Janahi said, “Research is important in creating the evidence base that can be used to drive forward changes in clinical practice to improve outcomes for our patients.
“Research is a central part of HMC’s academic health vision, combining education and training to deliver excellent clinical care. It is encouraging to witness the strength and depth of research expertise of our residents and fellows as showcased at the event.”
