DOHA: Qatar has been following the policy of “open doors” in dealing with the current situation, regionally and internationally, Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah said yesterday.
He was speaking in an interactive session with students of the Education City hosted by the Hamad bin Khalifa University yesterday. The discussion was titled “New Generation, New horizons: the Future of Qatari Diplomacy”.
He said the national interests of the Qatari people comes foremost in Qatar’s foreign policy objectives and within a comprehensive vision of a world of peace and reconciliation.
“Our foreign policy is geared to promote preventive measures to contain crises, ease the severity of disputes and conflicts in the region and across the world and seek to realise regional balance and stability,” said Al Attiyah.
He said global peace and security constitute an international system that ensures the rights and respect for all peoples. But, the sad and regrettable thing is that the Middle East peace process relapses and stumbles, again and again, to stop and get frozen eventually.
He said Qatar’s ties with Gulf states are social in the first place, and on them economic, political and other relations were built.
He stressed that the GCC is the last cohesive bloc in the Middle East, adding that Gulf states share the same destiny and their strength comes from their cohesion.
On Qatar’s relationship with Turkey, he said Turkey is a developed country that made tremendous leaps, adding that it was essential to establish relations with them to achieve the goals of the Qatari diplomacy which has always pursued an “open door” policy in dealing with what is at stake regionally and internationally.
