DOHA: The Spring Outdoor Art Fair kicked off at the amphitheatre of Katara Cultural Village yesterday.

A total of 44 artists are taking part in the exhibition that will be open today and tomorrow from 10am to 10pm. Artists have been offered an opportunity to exhibit and sell their works for free.

Among the participants in the event is the Katara Visual Arts Center, which has eight students taking part. The centre works on the development of artistic and cultural events, which promote cultural exchange.

The centre also offers training opportunities in a variety of artistic fields including photography, digital graphics, oils painting, screen painting and more.
Mustafa Issa is a professor at the centre that has the support of the Ministry of Culture. “It’s a great opportunity for the students and for the people that want to buy art,” he said.

One of the main objectives of the Spring Outdoor Art Fair is to stimulate the art market in Doha and to support Qatar-based artists through maximising opportunities for them to both exhibit and sell works, affordable to a general audience interested in art.

For Maha Nagy, an Egyptian student at the Visual Arts Center, this is a “great opportunity to sell our work for the first time and, especially, to gain the appreciation of other people. I paint all the time but I rarely have the chance for others to admire my work”.

The art fair team counted on the support of all artists and the artistic community in this effort towards developing more organised and focused opportunities for artists to be able to exhibit and sell their artwork in Doha.  The Peninsula
