MANILA:  A top level labour delegation from Myanmar led by its Labour Minister U Maung Myint will arrive in the Philippines next week for a study visit, a senior Philippine government official said today.

Philippine Labour Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the study visit of Myanmar’s labour officials is scheduled on April 22 to 26 and is part of the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) Asean Triangle Project.

“I look forward to the visit to the Philippines of Minister U Maung Myint and party. His visit will be an opportune time to discuss ways of strengthening the labour migration management systems and services of the Philippines and Myanmar,” said Baldoz. The delegation will visit agencies that deal with labour migration, discuss policies and management systems, and see first-hand programmes and services that cater to migrant workers.

Baldoz said one of the objectives of the tour is for Myanmar to identify areas in labour migration management they wish to learn about, and which could be addressed by Manila with the support of the Asean Triangle Project. The project aims to reduce the exploitation of migrant workers in the Southeast Asian region through increased legal and safe migration and improved labour protection.
