Sen. Grace Poe will be gunning for nothing less than the presidency in 2016, a key member of President Aquino’s Liberal Party (LP) said yesterday.
“Ayaw niya ng vice president. Gusto niya maging president (She doesn’t want to run for vice president. She wants to be president),” shared the source.
The LP stalwart, a lawmaker who declined to be named, was replying to a question on whether or not a Mar Roxas-Grace Poe tandem would be realistic for the upcoming polls.
The solon said it won’t materialize, particularly due to the popular senator’s supposed unwillingness to slide down to veep.
“Hindi tatanggapin ni Grace ‘yan (Grace will not accept that),” the source said as if betting the farm.
Poe, the daughter of the beloved late Filipino movie king Fernando Poe Jr., was the top vote-getter in the 2013 senatorial race. A former Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chairperson, Poe is perceived to have the best shot at beating Vice President Jejomar C. Binay for the seat in Malacañang, coming in as a strong second to him in the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
Roxas, secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Aquino’s expected “chosen one” for May, 2016, is a distant third placer.
While Binay has dominated popularity polls up to this point, the same source reckoned that Poe would blow past him once she declares her political plans.
