Doha: Public parks will remain open until late night during the Eid Al Fitr holidays. The Ministry of Municipality has announced that public parks will open from 5am to 2am during Eid holidays.

“Expecting a large number of visitors during Eid Al Fitr due to pleasant weather, the Ministry of Municipality has prepared public parks operating across the country,” said Head of the Parks Section in Doha Municipality, Mohammed Abdullah.

Speaking to Qatar TV, he said parks have been readied by carrying out necessary maintenance, deploying additional cleaning workforce and security guards to receive the visitors safely.

“With developing sport and exercise culture among Qatari community, public parks started receiving a growing number of visitors especially during the holidays and festivities,” said Abdullah. He said most parks with fences located in residential areas are designated for families.

“There are a number of other parks which are receiving general public including families and individuals.”

He said most public parks in the municipality open for visitors from 5am until 2am, as they are closed for three hours for cleaning and maintenance.

Public parks have become major picnic places for people including families and individuals, especially during weekends and holidays.

People also use public parks to get together with families and friends on festive occasions and holidays.

Public parks received 131,961 visitors during Eid Al Fitr holidays last year, according to figures released by the Ministry of Municipality.

Public parks in Doha Municipality had attracted the highest number of visitors at 50,000, followed by parks in Al Rayan Municipality which received 35,500 people.

The number of public parks in Qatar reached 148 in 2022 from 56 in 2010, recording 164 percent growth.

Public parks are have fitness equipment, children play areas and jogging tracks, and some are air-conditioned for the comfort of visitors.

The parks have been built following sustainability goals to cut the carbon footprint and provide fresh air to visitors.

Building public parks is part of the efforts of the Ministry in building and developing public parks and picnic places across the municipalities, to provide healthy, recreational and tourist places for people.

Following new planning, the Public Parks Department is working to provide public parks, walkways and cycling tracks at all possible residential areas under ongoing beautification projects.

The existing parks have been uplifted and new parks are being designed in a way to incorporate innovative ideas and smart technologies, making public parks more environmentally-friendly and sustainable facilities.
