Doha: The Qatari Forum for Authors, in cooperation with the Qatar National Commission for Education , Culture and Science, held a session entitled “The Arabic Language and Cultural Challenges.”

The session broadcasted on YouTube, hosted Director General of Wijdan Cultural Center Dr. Jassim Sultan who spoke about the status of the Arabic language and the challenges it faces.

He said that the Arabic language is one of the most important languages in the world due to its internal strength stemming from its ability to give. He pointed out that the growth of languages is linked to their surroundings and the civilisation on which they live.

Dr. Sultan noted the development of resources and tools that carry this language. Therefore, the weaker the media that transmits the language, the language lags behind its counterparts, not because of its internal weakness, but because of the weakness of the civilisation to which it belongs to and promotes. He explained that strong languages, including English, are culturally dominant over the rest of societies.

Dr. Sultan touched on the opportunities and challenges facing the Arabic language to build an equal culture.
