Qatar top contributor to Kuwait FDI

DOHA: With contributing a massive 65.6 percent of Kuwait’s total foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow into Kuwait, Qatar ranks top among all other foreign countries that invest in Kuwait. Ten countries jointly contribute for about 98.8 percent of the total FDI in Kuwait with a value of KD2.93bn at the end of 2012.
“Qatar ranked first in the exporting countries for foreign direct investments to Kuwait during the year, with about KD1.94bn, and representing 65.6 percent of total foreign investment flow to Kuwait,” Kuwait Central statistics Bureau revealed.
Bahrain is the second largest contributor to the Kuwait’s FDI pool in 2012. It comes with a value amounted to KD210m, representing 7.1 percent of to total FDI inflow. The document released by Kuwait Statistics Bureau shows that Qatar’s capital flight to Kuwait has been growing steadily over the three years since 2010. In 2010, Kuwait received KD413m investment from Qatar. It further grew to KD1.08bn in 2011 before jumping to KD1.94bn in 2012. Qatar has been the top contributor to Kuwait’s FDI pool during all these three years. Kuwait’s FDI in the share capital market has touched KD2.95m at the end of 2012 compared to KD2.1bn in the previous year, representing an increase of about KD856m and accounted for 40.7 percent.The Peninsula
