Al Kuwari opens Georgia photo expo at Katara

Doha: The Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari yesterday opened the ‘Georgia and its Neighbours’ photo exhibition at Qatar Photographic Society (QPS) at Katara.
Georgian Ambassador  Ekaterine Meiering-Mikadze, several diplomats and QPS members  were present.
The exhibition, as part Ramadan activities in cooperation with the Georgian embassy,  features 66 photos taken by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky, a photographer who lived in the 20th century. 
The photos highlight social life, economic conditions, buildings and landmarks in Georgia during 1905-1915. 
Dr Al Kuwari praised QPS’s role in presenting friendly countries through exhibitions and said activities for the summer season will start immediately after Ramadan and continue through September.
QPS Vice-President, Abdurrahman Al Obeidan, said preparations for the exhibition took about six months, and Prokudin-Gorsky was selected by the embassy and Library of Congress. QNA
