Ankara: The Turkish Ministry of Interior announced Monday that one Turkish soldier was killed and another was injured by an improvised explosive device in the state of Van in eastern Turkey.

The ministry said in a statement that a gendarme was killed and another was wounded as a result of the explosion of an improvised explosive device on Monday morning in the countryside of Chatak district in the state, as part of Arn Siege-22 Operation.

In a related development, the authorities in Diyarbakir province managed to eliminate two militants during a joint operation between the gendarme forces and security elements. The ministry explained that the two militants were about to launch an attack, as the investigations revealed that one of the militants was involved in an armed attack that targeted a civilian gathering in the capital Ankara in 2016.
