DOHA: A total of 140,000 needy people have benefited from the projects implemented by Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) during Ramadan within and outside Qatar.
This year Ramadan campaign was held under the slogan ‘Merciful Among Themselves’.
The aim of the campaign was to remind the citizens and residents in Qatar to have compassion and mercy urging to donate to the needy, vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
Total cost of the projects amounted to QR45m for 57 projects for relief, medical and social aid which were carried out in 14 countries.
Needy people in places such as in Palestine/Jerusalem, refugee camps in Lebanon, Yemen, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, China, Sri Lanka, Niger, Somalia, southern Sudan, Darfur, Chad and Comoros.
In Syria out of this budget, Qatar Red Crescent allocated QR1.204,500 to support the needy people.
Around QR6,000,000 was allocated to the implementation of projects within Qatar during the month of Ramadan.
These projects included support to needy families providing them with iftar meals, Zakat Al Fitr, food vouchers, distributing food items, Eid clothing, and conducting social programs. Also a programme was held to honour outstanding students and the ‘This is My Wish’ project which realised the dreams of sick children. The projects benefited around 92,000 people.
