Doha: Qatar has strongly condemned the explosion which hit Al Dair village in Bahrain, injuring five securitymen, an official source at the Foreign Ministry said yesterday.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency, the source affirmed Qatar’s solidarity with the people and government of Bahrain, reiterating that Qatar denounces criminal acts that undermine security and stability and terrorise people.

The policemen were wounded as security forces clashed with opposition protesters in the Shia village of Al Dair north of capital Manama.

The injuries were inflicted by a “group of terrorists” at the entrance to the village with a “home-made explosive device,” the state-run Bahrain News Agency said.

Witnesses said forces cordoned off the area, raided homes and made some arrests. In Cairo, Arab League Secretary General Dr Nabil Elaraby also condemned the “terrorist” act.
