Eight killed, three missing in SW China rainstorm

BEIJING: Eight people have died and three others are missing after rain-triggered landslides in southwest China's Sichuan Province, according to China's News Agency (Xinhua).
 
Heavy rain lashed the city of Yibin with precipitation in some townships exceeding 100 mm, the city government said in a statement.
 
The rainstorms wreaked havoc in six townships in two counties of Yibin, it said. 
 
Apart from the 11 dead and missing, two others were injured.
 
The search operation for the missing people is ongoing.
 
The city government has ordered checks for potential geological hazards and stepped up pre-warning and forecasting of any possible disasters. (QNA)
