Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced his resignation on Saturday, the decision coming in protest to the conditional pardon granted to former Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Loke made the announcement following the party's central executive committee meeting that had been convened to discuss the Democratic Action Party's (DAP) response to the pardon.
Loke, who is the secretary-general of the DAP, which is the biggest party in terms of members of parliament in the coalition government, said the other DAP ministers would not be resigning.
The resignation came the day after Najib was granted a conditional pardon, which includes serving the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
He has been imprisoned since August 2022 over abuse of power related to SRC International, a former unit of the state investment fund 1MDB.
