DOHA: More Qataris are now taking up jobs in the private sector, although their ratio still remains to be a scanty 9.3 per cent, finds the latest Workforce survey conducted by the Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA).

Unemployment rate among Qataris fell by 0.8 percent over the past one year, reaching 3.1 percent, against 3.8 percent reported last year, shows the survey.

Unemployment among non-Qataris is estimated to be 0.3 per cent. The total number of unemployed Qataris stood at 2,600 this year, while there are a total of 3,892 non-Qataris who are unemployed, according to official data.

This finding is based on the standards set by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to define unemployment, Qatar News Agency reported yesterday, citing QSA data.

No change in the rate of unemployment among non-Qataris, over the past year.
