BJD wins Odisha Lok Sabha byelection

Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate Pratyusha Rajeswari won the Kandhamal Lok Sabha byelection in Odisha by a margin of nearly 300,000 votes, officials said.
Rajeswari secured 477,529 votes while her nearest rival, Rudra Madhav Ray of the Bharatiya Janata Party, received 178,661 votes, state’s joint chief electoral officer Jyoti Prakash Das said.
Congress candidate Abhimanyu Behera stood third, securing just 90,536 votes.


Record 13 women get elected in Haryana

Chandigarh: Haryana’s legislative history has a new entry - 13 women candidates have been declared elected to the new state assembly yesterday out of the record 116 who had contested.
Out of those elected, eight belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), three to the Congress and one each to the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC).
Five sitting legislators have been re-elected. These include two ministers — Geeta Bhukkal and Kiran Choudhary — in the outgoing Congress government. The other three re-elected are Renuka Bishnoi (HJC), Shakuntla Khatak (Congress), Santosh Chauhan Sarwan and Kavita Jain (both BJP).Agencies
