Doha: QatarDebate, member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, organised the First Qatar Universities Debate League in English on October 18 at College of North-Atlantic Qatar.
The league is one of the few educational programmes in Qatar that brings together students from 10 of 12 tertiary education institutions based in Qatar.
This is the first event on our calendar this year for university students across Qatar, 28 teams participating from 11 universities, including Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, College of North Atlantic Qatar, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar, Qatar Aeronautical College, Qatar Community College, Qatar University - Texas A & M University of Calgary Qatar, Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar – Academic Bridge Program). There were 112 debaters and 20 judges.
The league included four preliminary rounds and the motions.
This year’s league is spread out through four tournaments.
The debate points earned by the top two teams from the university at tournaments are accumulated.
QatarDebate thanked College of the North Atlantic on the good hosting, coaches, debaters, adjudicators, observers and volunteers who took part.
