Doha: ‘Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Academy brought to you by Ooredoo’ coaching clinics took place in Tunisia this week, with special sessions at El Manzah Stadium.
More than 200 youngsters aged 8-16 took part after having been selected from Ooredoo Football Academy, which has branches in Tunis, Sousse and Monastir, and from junior clubs of some of Ooredoo-sponsored Tunisian football teams.
Some youngsters living in underserved areas selected by Tunisian ‘Sport for All’ federation also took part.
Sessions provided insights into topics from training and preparation to injury management and will take aspiring young footballers closer to their dreams of playing the sport professionally.
Led by PSG coaches, the clinics are designed to educate, motivate and encourage young players, and connect them with new opportunities.
Ooredoo and Paris-Saint Germain also organised a training seminar for 16 coaches of Tunisian football teams sponsored by Ooredoo, as part of the wider investment in supporting football in Tunisia.
The first phase of ‘PSG Academy brought to you by Ooredoo’ programme started in Doha in May this year and was a success.
Dr Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Ooredoo, said: “This programme has achieved excellent results in terms of bringing young people together through their love of football, and contributing to their growth and development.
“With this new phase taking place in Tunisia, we are connecting with a community of young people who are passionate about the game and delighted to have the chance to work with coaches from PSG.”
The next clinics will be held in Doha in December, followed by Oman, Kuwait and Algeria in the coming months.
Ooredoo and PSG signed a sponsorship agreement in September 2013, which stresses community support and involvement.
The programme is part of the two group’s approach to encouraging healthy lifestyles and supporting young people’s ambitions and aspirations.
