Washington: A 6.8-magnitude earthquake jolted Solomon Islands in the south Pacific early on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 10.82 km, was centered about 119 kilometers southwest of Dadali, or 176 kilometers west-northwest of the capital Honiara, (USGS) added.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said in a statement that there was no tsunami threat from the quake based on all available data.
The Solomon islands are located in a region of the world that experiences a high degree of seismicity.
