DOHA: Global Mariner Terminal Operator, DP World UAE Region, yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nissan to put its Pathfinder Hybrid to the test at Jebel Ali Port in Dubai, showcasing the environmental and economic benefits of hybrid vehicles to the wider community in the UAE.
Building stronger affinity for environment-friendly initiatives is a key element of Dubai’s 2020 vision and is necessary in the transformation of becoming a smarter and more sustainable city. As a result, Nissan has been focused on showcasing its commitment to innovative sustainable automotive technology and partnering with local organisations in the UAE to spread awareness about the benefits of switching to hybrid vehicles.
The MoU, which was signed by Samir Cherfan, Managing Director of Nissan Middle East and Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice-President and Managing Director of DP World UAE Region, in Jebel Ali, will see the Japanese automaker provide two Nissan Pathfinder Hybrids that will be put to the test to prove their fuel economy and low emission credentials. After a period of one year, DP World will be able to communicate the benefits of using hybrid vehicles as part of its fleet.
Samir Cherfan said: “At Nissan, we have a clear vision for the future of eco-friendly transportation in the UAE and are big believers in supporting sustainable and fuel efficient driving technology. Following the launch of our Pathfinder Hybrid, we are pleased to be able to partner with DP World to showcase the SUV’s environmental credentials and put its fuel-efficient power train to the test. We are confident that it will yield impressive results and look forward to communicating the benefits of the hybrid test with DP World.”
Mohammed Al Muallem said, “Following the announcement of H H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s sustainability vision for Expo 2020, and as a premier partner for Expo 2020, DP World believes the importance of being part of Dubai’s vision to become a Green Economy. Our partnership with Nissan aims to show the local community the eco-friendly benefits of fuel efficient hybrid automotive technology. We look forward to seeing how much the Nissan Pathfinder will help us reduce our environmental impact and the potential savings it will bring to our drivers who will require less fuel on a daily basis.”
DP World has a large fleet of vehicles at Jebel Ali Port, the 9th world largest seaport. Vehicles are used to transport staff between three terminals. In a bid to support more sustainable transportation practices, the port operator has agreed to test Nissan’s hybrids to see just how much it can reduce its carbon footprint by switching to a fuel efficient mode of transport. Additionally, DP World will be able to track how much money can be saved during this exercise. By highlighting the benefits of the Pathfinder Hybrid to the local community, Nissan hopes to offer a way for people across the country to play an active role in the UAE’s sustainability drive by switching to a hybrid.
