
DOHA: Motor sport fans in Qatar and the region are in for a treat - the QMMF yesterday announced that entry for the two-day WTCC round at Losail International Circuit is free.
Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah, President of QMMF, yesterday said fans who will turn up at Losail International Circuit for the November 26-27 gala will be allowed into the fan zone for free.
“During the event, the Losail International Circuit will be opened free of charge for fans who want to enjoy this event,” Al Attiyah said.
“It is a unique event that QMMF will host later this month,” Al Attiyah said.
Rally star Sebastien Loeb will go head to head against two-time Dakar champion Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah at the two-day event to be held under lights.
“The WTCC includes some top names who have dominated Formula One circuits and at world famous rallies.
“It sure will be an exciting battle,” he added in a statement released by QMMF.
Al Attiyah said the two-day event will be covered by Euro sport with live broadcast going to more than 70 countries, reacing more than 560 million TV viewers. Al Attiyah said: “Clearly this event has large following the world over. I am happy to say Qatar will be hosting the last race of the WTCC season.”
He added: “Furthermore, it will be special occasion when we see Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah competing against drivers like Sebastian Loeb.”
The World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) is an international Touring Car championship sanctioned by the FIA. The WTCC uses Super 2000 and Diesel 2000 cars. Engines are limited to 2.0 liter. Many technologies that have featured in production cars are not allowed, including variable valve timing, variable intake geometry, ABS brakes and traction control system.
