Doha: In an update published on the social media regarding the case about three family members getting admitted in the hospital due to food poisoning symptoms, the medical sources said that the father and two children have been given the antitoxin drug procured directly from the drug manufacturer abroad.
The Ministry of Public Health explained in a statement that the analysis of food samples taken from the family home and similar samples from the local market showed that they do not contain suspected bacteria botulinum nor any bacteria causing food poisoning in general.
During their inspections, technical teams from the ministry have observed unsafe food practices inside the family home.
The Ministry in the statement reminded everyone the need to purchase food from reliable sources, safe handling, preparation, proper storage of food and immediate disposal of expired food, in addition to keeping food according to its thermal needs - chilled or frozen.
In an earlier statement the ministry had expressed doubts that the symptoms shown by the man his children were due to consuming contaminated canned food.
According to the doctors and the affected family, the symptoms of the man, daughter and son included shortness of breath, vision disorders, weakness in the facial muscles and difficulty swallowing.
The pathological evidence showed that the symptoms mentioned are similar to poisoning caused due to bacteria known as botulinum bacteria that particularly affect the facial nerves, throat, and breathing.
In the latest report, after receiving the results of the food sample analysis, Ministry has confirmed that the canned food is not the cause of the symptoms.
