Kahramaa to launch new water plants

DOHA: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) is to launch new water plants in Duhail, Umm Qarn, Mesaimeer, south Doha and Muathier.
These are major projects aimed to raise the strategic reserves of Kahramaa, said a statement yesterday.
The Duhail plant will be the largest in Qatar, which can keep one-third of the water reserves in Qatar, with a separate section for pumping, according to Al Sharq.
With six large reservoirs with a total capacity of 142 million gallons, the plant will serve areas including Lusail, Al Kheesa and Rowdath Al Hammam.
The Umm Qarn plant has five reservoirs with a capacity of 71m gallons and will serve Umm Qarn, Semaisma and surrounding areas. It has been built at a cost of QR973m.
The South Doha Plant includes pumping stations and seven reservoirs with a total capacity of 84m gallons. Costing QR640m, the plant will serve residents of Doha, Al Hilal, Airport and Ain Khalid.
The Mesaimeer plant, costing QR658m has six reservoirs with a total capacity of 108m gallons. It will serve Mesaimeer and surrounding areas.
The other plant has five large reservoirs with a capacity of 105m gallons. Built at a cost of QR656m, it will serve Bin Hajir, Maidir, Al Sailiya and surrounding areas.
The statement said that Kahramaa is preparing to launch another big water reservoir project to support the newly developed areas in the country.
