DOHA: The recently established Katara Cultural Forum will organise a symposium on ‘The role of media in cultural development’ at Katara next month.
The forum’s organising committee said the event comes amid increasing cultural mobility in the region and as those concerned with art and cultural affairs blame media outlets for a lack of concern about cultural affairs as shown in the limited space allocated by these outlets.
The symposium will address the issue to create close contact between the media and intellectuals, academics and other concerned parties and show the important role the media can play in cultural development.
Among the topics to be covered are ‘Print media and culture, current situation and the future’; ‘Joint responsibility of media and culture’; ‘Culture in new media’; ‘TV channels and culture’; and ‘Challenges of presence and the risks of absence of culture in the media’.
Meanwhile, after assessing the inaugural writers and artists’ symposium, the forum will hold the second writers and artists’ event in the evening to give chance to more people to attend.
The forum will also try to attract the youth and create for them a suitable environment to actively participate and innovate in the cultural and arts field.
The forum also seeks to strengthen relation between writers and intellectuals with their counterparts abroad and improve the level of culture and art coordinating with specialised institutions and individuals locally and internationally.
The writers and artists forum is held once every three months. The Peninsula
