Interpol team visits Search & Rescue HQ

Doha: The Director of Operational Police Support Directorate at International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), Michael O’Connell, has praised the Qatari search and rescue team, which managed to get international tribute, thanks to its cadres.
O’Connell led an Interpol team, including Ali Mohammad Al Ali, Officer in Project Stadia which ensures security at major sporting events, and Rabab Bsieso, Operations Assistant at the project, visited  the Qatari search and rescue team premises.
 O’Connell said the Qatari team includes an elite group of promising young men who participated in relief and support operations at international level, and in practical exercises and the team also has the best equipment in the field of search and rescue.
Qatar Search and Rescue Team Officer Maj. Abdullah Eid Al Muhannadi highlighted the team’s capabilities and international tasks it has taken part in.
He said the team took part in many overseas search and rescue operations, provided assistance, contributed to mitigating the impact of crises and disasters on victims and supported them in various forms.
The most important operations included search and rescue efforts after earthquakes in Kashmir and Indonesia, in Lebanon, and providing aid to the people of Gaza, Mauritania, Haiti and other countries.
During a press conference on the sidelines of the meeting, Maj. Al Muhannadi underlined the importance of enhancing the team’s efficiency through advanced training, stressing that training is key to the development of a distinct and integrated work system, and improving the level of response to all risks and challenges in and outside Qatar.
