Mashel Al Naimi was the fastest rider in the first free practice yesterday when the opening round of the Qatar Superstock 600 (QSTK) flagged off at Losail International Circuit.
Al Naimi clocked 2:06.607, followed by Saeed Al Sulaiti with a lap time of 2:07.523. In the second free practice, Al Sulaiti led the timings, stopping the clock at 2:05.627 and Al Naimi did second best with 2:05.919.
Khalid Al Mal and Hassan Al Mansoori managed to get to the Superpole 2 in which the winner was Al Naimi. Al Naimi did a great time of 2:04.914 and will start today from the first place at the grid.
"I am very happy with this result, my bike is really good but not really happy with the lap time, I tried to make a good lap but I don’t know why didn’t improve but happy to start from the front row and have a good rhythm. The championship has just start and let’s see if tomorrow, hope I can win both race and for sure there will be a fight tomorrow for the first place and I try to make a little adjustment in the warm up," said the poleman of the QSTK.
Al Sulaiti, who will start at the second position of the grid today, said that he was happy as he is not far away from the top times.
"The lap time was not bad, it is good to start at the front row but I would be happier if I could get the superpole but today it was not possible, but we are not very far away. We need to work a bit on the set up and we’ll be there. Regarding tomorrow's race, I expect it is going to be a big fight between the top three, Mashel, Nasser and myself so let’s see what is going to happen tomorrow," Al Sulaiti said.
The third rider in the front row will be Nasser Al Malki who was very happy with his position after a long time without racing.
"I am very happy at the end as in the beginning I had a strange feeling on the bike, the wind was opposite today and too much push from the corner, I lost a lot of time."
"During the FP1 and FP2, I was riding used tyres, but in the superpole I changed to new tyre and I had more grip and feel better. I am happy to be in the third position to start tomorrow as it is important to start in the first line and also as it is a long time for me I didn’t race and this is very good for me, almost 2 years without racing," Al Malki said.
Today's first race of QSTK will flag off at 11.10am and the second race will start at 2.10pm with free entrance for all the spectators at the grandstand and paddock.
