NEW DELHI: India can play a major role in the Asean Community in 2015, Malaysia's Deputy Foreign Minister said Wednesday at the inauguration of Delhi Dialogue V named 'Asean-India: A Vision for Partnership and Prosperity'.
"The success of the Asean Community needs continuous support from all Asean dialogue partners, given that 2015 is just 22 months away," said Senator A Kohilan Pillay, according to a Bernama report today.
Malaysia is due to take up Asean chairmanship in 2015.
Asean and India need to enhance efforts in executing the Plan of Action to implement the Asean-India Partnership for Peace, Progress and Shared Prosperity 2010-2015, he said and added that a document to ensure continuation of programme should be planned.
India should engage in Asean Defence Ministers' Meeting and the Asean Regional Forum to foster consultations on political and security issues, Pillay said at the Delhi Dialgoue V. (QNA)
