Doha: The Cabinet yesterday endorsed a draft law regulating military scholarships and its draft executive regulations.
The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani chaired the weekly session at the Emiri Diwan.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said the Cabinet reviewed a letter by the Tax Appeal Committee at the Ministry of Finance on the panel’s report from 1 July, 2013 to 31 December, 2013.
It also reviewed a letter by Qatar Committee for Alliance of Civilisations on the final version of Qatar’s plan for 2013 to 2016.
The plan includes programmes and activities to achieve understanding among nations and peoples, remove causes of discord and misunderstandings, achieve respect for peoples and cultures, and goals in the areas of education, youth, expat affairs and the media.
The Cabinet discussed a letter by Qatar’s General Postal Corporation on the estimated budget for fiscal year 2014, and views of the Ministry of Finance.
It approved a draft agreement for cooperation on preventing and combating transnational crimes between Qatar and Vietnam.
The Minister of Development Planning and Statistics H E Dr Saleh Mohamed Salem Al Nabit briefed the session on the ministry’s activities and development statistics.
He said his ministry is committed to H H the Emir’s directives and goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, which culminated in the National Development Strategy 2011–2016 to achieve comprehensive development.
With assistance from World Bank, the ministry is carrying out mid-term evaluation of the strategy to redress shortcomings in implementation and benefit from points of strength.
The ministry is also preparing studies and surveys on comprehensive development and population policies and working on the establishment of an integrated statistical system by setting up regulations for surveys and censuses, analysing and publishing data and statistical products, and offering support for decisionmakers as well as ministries and state institutions.
The ministry has employed advanced systems in line with standards of the UN and its affiliated organisations.
Dr Al Nabit said the ministry has achieved full information connectivity with statistical data exporters from other ministries and entities.
It’s also working to achieve complete electronic connectivity with other ministries and government institutions.
