DOHA: Nearly 1,200 workers of Qatar Navigation Company (Milaha) will be the first occupants of the housing units of ‘Barwa Al Baraha’ labour city, which are ready in the Phase One of the project, a senior official of Waseef, an asset management subsidiary of Barwa Real Estate Company, said here recently.
Waseef will sign first contract with Milaha next week to lease the services of the workers’ accommodation in the upcoming city.
“We are going to sign a contract with Milaha next week which will enable the movement of about 1,200 workers in the labour accommodation from April 1,” said Mohamed Ali Al Hamadi, Sales and Leasing Manager, Waseef.
Al Hamadi said the company had received requests for the lease of labour accommodation services from many big companies, including Milaha and Qatar Airways.
As eight buildings, each with 130 rooms, are complete, residents are expected to start moving into the housing units from the first week of April.
Barwa Al Baraha, also known as Baraha Motor City, is an integrated project constructed over 1.8 million square metres in the Industrial Area.
The QR2bn Motor City is considered one of the biggest in the world.
It has been designed to accommodate nearly 53,000 labourers, including single workers, with parking for over 4,200 heavy vehicles and other facilities such as petrol stations, workshops, service centres, vehicle inspection centre, mosques, police station and other community -related facilities of international standards.
The labour accommodation comprise 64 four-storey buildings, with each floor with 130 rooms.
The city is divided into four complexes, each with 16 buildings, administration buildings and green areas to be completed in four phases.
According to recent reports, about 75 percent of work for Phase One has been completed and more housing units will start receiving occupants by this summer.
Truck parking facility in the Motor City is operational, and the company is offering free parking services for six months to heavy vehicles, including trucks, truck-trailers and machinery and truck-tankers.
