Doha: Qatar Olympic Academy (QOA), in association with INSEEC University of Paris, will conduct a five-day executive training programme in Sports Diplomacy, it was announced here yesterday.
The course, to held at Qatar Olympic Academy Building from February 22 to 26, will cover a wide range of topics ranging from Global Governance of Sports to Political Lobbying in Sports.
“The seminar will reflect on the mechanisms and practices of awarding international sports events through the influence of lobbies, networks and global media,” says the course brochure.
“The course will provide a panoramic view of the numerous agencies and actors in sports candidate nominations, along with the personalities with diplomatic and political influence in the voting process and decision-making,” it adds.
A number of former sportsmen and academics involved with sports will be the resource persons for the course.
Coming to Doha are Serge Valentin, Dr Amir Dhia, Remy Challe and Alexandre Cadet.
On the first day of the meet, Dr Dhia will deliberate on Sports, Politics and Diplomacy.
The emergence of sports diplomacy and its increasing role in politics as a bridge-builder among nations will be analysed by Dr Dhia, who holds a PhD in diplomacy and is the Dean of Studies at INSEEC University in Paris.
Valentin, a former professional athlete who now is a specialist in sports communication and marketing, will analyse the institutions that govern world sports, in terms of politics, organisational structure, management, operational and cultural, decision-making, regulations, and processes.
Two other resource persons, Challe and Cadet, will touch the topics of Political Lobbying and Public Relations in Sports on day four and the following day will conduct a workshop on Sports Diplomacy. Cadet is the co-founder and managing director of Be4team, a Geneva-based sports marketing agency, while Challe, and is the Director of MSc and MBA Programmes at INSEEC University. THE PENINSULA
