Hyderabad: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a reward of Rs10 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of the accused in the Feb 21 terror attack in Hyderabad. The NIA, which is probing the twin bomb blasts, has promised to keep the identity of the informant confidential. The NIA said the information may be provided on telephone numbers 040-2776 4488, 040-4005 8500 or e-mail ID dilsukhnagartwinblasts@gmail.com or through post. The bomb blasts at the crowded Dilsukhnagar area killed 17 people and injured 116.
Drunk man opens fire, arrested
New Delhi: A 45-year-old drunk man was arrested for firing in the air at the office of a Congress legislator here yesterday morning, said police. The firing was reported around 11.20am from west Delhi’s Pitampura area. The man who opened fire was identified as Ravinder Yadav. “Yadav arrived at the office of Tri Nagar MLA (member of legislative assembly) Anil Bhardwaj and started using filthy language. As some Congress workers there told him not to use such words, he came out of the office and started firing in the air from a pistol,” said a police officer. No one was injured.
Businessman shot at in Rs3 lakh heist
New Delhi: A 55-year-old businessman was shot and wounded here while resisting four assailants who robbed Rs3 lakh from his shop, police said. Three of the attackers have been arrested. Kishori Lal Sharma was fired at in central Delhi’s Paharganj area on Monday around 7pm, police said. “The accused fled from the spot after robbing Rs3 lakh. While resisting the robbery, the businessman was hit by a bullet in abdomen,” said a police officer. After the robbers left Sharma’s shop, one of the attackers was overpowered by some passersby, police said. Sonu, 25, was caught by people and handed over to police but his associates managed to escape. The robbed amount was recovered from the spot, the officer said.
Woman ends life after rape by ‘witch doctor’
Jaipur: A man who claimed to be a witch doctor was arrested in Rajasthan after a 25-year-old woman accused him of raping her and then committed suicide. The incident occurred at Pahari village of Jaipur district, 150km from here. A senior police officer said: “The victim had approached Mamraj Kumar who claimed to be witch doctor and capable of treating infertility.” The victim did not have a child since her marriage seven years ago, the officer said. “Mamraj drugged the woman when she came for treatment and raped her. Feeling humiliated, the woman told the family members about what had happened and later jumped into a well,” said the officer. The witch doctor was arrested after the family members lodged a first information report against him, he added.
115kg banned drug seized at airport
New Delhi: Two people from Mizoram were arrested from Delhi airport for carrying 115kg tablets of contraband drug pseudoephedrine worth nearly Rs1.2 crore, police said. Lianthuama Chhakchhuak, 48, a welder, and Sawithanga, 53, a carpenter, were arrested and around 57.5kg tablets were recovered from each of them. The two were arrested on the basis of a tip-off that contraband drug was being trafficked aboard a plane.
